Booking an appointment

How do I arrange to have this test?

Ring 01865 751697. In the event of no one being available to take your call, please leave your name and number and we will always ring you back. Alternatively you can e-mail Mr Impey (Lawrence.Impey@orh.nhs.uk) or his secretary (Bronwen.meredith@orh.nhs.uk). You do not have to go through your doctor or midwife. A time for the scan will be arranged for you, and the office will send you a special blood pack.

Other scans and screening tests

Dating and anomaly scans are routinely performed on the NHS, but can be performed privately if you prefer.

Growth scans can also be performed privately. These are performed on the NHS only for a specific reason such as if your midwife or doctor thinks the baby is small.

Uterine artery Doppler involves a scan at approximately 23 weeks. It allows us to identify some pregnancies at higher risk of pre eclampsia or those where the baby’s growth slows.

Cervical length scanning involves an internal scan at any time, usually after 16 weeks, to identify some pregnancies at risk of severely premature birth. Both uterine artery Doppler and cervical length scanning can be arranged privately, but are available on the NHS to women already at high risk.

Videos and photographs

We will normally give you ultrasound pictures of the baby. We can also sometimes arrange a short recording for you. Please request this in advance.

Fees

This is a private medical service, although part of the income generated is used for equipment and staff used by the NHS or is paid to the Oxford Fetal Medicine Fund, part of the Oxford Radcliffe Charitable Fund (Registered Charity No 1057295). This fund has been established to help improve fetal medicine services in Oxford, and contributed to the department’s superb ultrasound equipment and to the building of the new Oxford Feto-Maternal Medicine Unit.
